The Ongoing Battle: LEAN vs. Six Sigma

I’ve read and listened to many discourses on the merits of LEAN Manufacturing Techniques and the Six Sigma Methodology. Which one is the answer? I like to look at it like having an opportunity to fix something at your house. Do you want a hammer or a screw driver? Both of them are excellent tools (note: when used properly). You want to select the right tool for the job. If the project is large enough, you may have an opportunity to use both of them. I don’t think that either or both of them provide the panacea that some people claim.

We are versed in both and encourage the use of the right tool when appropriate.

There are inherent differences. Often times they can be thought of as LEAN covering a square mile and an inch deep while Six Sigma is a square inch with a mile deep dive. We will facilitate either type of project to allow you to achieve the full benefits of the tools you are using.

Don’t use a hammer to drive a screw – It may work, but it won’t be effective and it sure isn’t pretty.
